Are you an adult yoga fan? If so, you’ll know about all the benefits for your body and mind. So why not extend theses benefits to the kids in your life? Increasingly, yoga teachers and studios are offering yoga classes for youngsters.
Six great reason for kids’ yoga
Flexibility and strength: Children usually have great flexibility and the yoga poses can help to prolong this into their teens and adulthood. With children doing less and less sports, yoga is a great alternative way to keep their bodies flexible and strong.
Confidence and self-esteem: Achieving a new pose or doing workouts like mum and dad, is great for children’s confidence. Yoga strength and flexibility also promotes a child’s inner self-esteem.
Discipline: Yoga has a set of “rules”. These aren’t like rules in school but rather guidelines on how to form poses and how to behave. This is a good way to teach children the art of self-discipline.
Focus: Yoga is great for improving concentration. Everyone needs to focus as they attempt to hold poses or move from one pose to the next.
Sociable: Going along to a class to learn poses together helps to form friendships and create bonds. This is a great way for children to learn how to interact with others and be sociable.
Relaxation: Yoga is great for finding peace in the mind. In our busy world, where kids spend a great deal of time playing computer games or watching TV and “activating” their minds, yoga helps to switch off the business and give them mindful peace.
Look out for children’s yoga classes at gyms and studios near where you live. If you attend an adult yoga class, why not ask if the teacher knows of any children’s classes – or perhaps they would be willing to set up a class if there are enough children willing to attend.
