So you will have read a wealth of amazing stories and stats during and after the Olympic Games 2012, but how about this one: Divorce rates dropped to a summer time low during the London Games!
According to a survey by website Divorce-Online “the Olympics were good for married couples”!
It’s claimed that the general feel-good factor of the Olympic Games kept couples smiling at each other and gave them more to focus on than rowing over who put the bins out.
As Team GB romped to an impressive haul of 65 medals, Divorce-Online reported a 25% decrease in divorce enquiries when compared to the same time period last year.
However, some good things do come to an end, it seems. Since the London Olympics 2012 closing ceremony finished the divorce caseload has been creeping up again – and back to normal average levels for this time of year.
A spokesperson said: “It seems the Olympics, as well as bringing Britain together, kept couples together too as the feel-good factor took over.
“Many families spent more time together watching the Games and the great results allowed them to share this special occasion as a family, at least for a few weeks.
“September is traditionally one of our busiest times for divorce as people return to the reality of every day life after the school holidays but this year our busy period has already started after the quiet two weeks during the games.”
Perhaps the London Paralympics will give couples something else to smile about in the next 10 days? We’re hoping for a divorce downturn again.
