What Is Fit?
Regular exercise improves health and fitness. Good health is defined as a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being; not merely the absence of illness or infirmity. Fitness is the ability to meet the demands of the environment.
Everybody’s fitness levels are different. For example an older person may need to be fit to walk to the shops with ease. Where as a professional athlete needs to be fit to carry out training and competitions. We should all be fit for the tasks we wish to carry out.
Physically, sport helps you lose weight, enjoy a more toned body and show stamina on the sports field. Regular exercise also boosts self-confidence and mental concentration. Being fit is a big plus; enhancing co-ordination, agility and cardiovascular fitness.
We at Simply Sweat want to help you get fit so we have put together some help and advice pages including what exercises to do to what equipment to buy to suit your needs.
Strength training is a great way to get into shape, it really defines those muscles you are working on and helps build your fitness. Obviously you won’t become more toned overnight, you are going to have to work hard to get there but you will be able to do it.
Strength training isn’t for everybody but doing a bit every time you exercise will improve your fitness. For some people strength training is the one thing they love to do, but it is up to you how much you want to do and what you want to achieve from it. Adding this in with other training methods when you exercise will help you to build a good all round fitness.
A great way to build up your strength is weight training. Everybody should try to fit weight training into their workouts to help tone muscles; this isn’t just an exercise designed for body builders. Obviously the more weight training you do the more muscle you are going to build.

Cardiovascular exercise has also been shown to help reduce the chance of a variety of medical conditions, including osteoporosis, stroke, diabetes and heart disease.
We have put together some of the best and most common ways to help you kick start your cardiovascular training! Our guides include running, kick boxing, rowing, spinning, step aerobics, swimming and walking.

Gaining flexibility is extremely beneficial, so adding this to your workout is a must. Learning how to stretch your muscles will help to improve your balance and as a result will promote better posture.
The definition of flexibility is the joint’s ability to move through a full range of motion. By working on this you will find that over time movements become much easier. It can also relieve many aches and pains, especially those in the lower back. By building your flexibility now will help improve your suppleness in later life.
Great ways to gain flexibility are through Yoga, Pilates and Thai Chi. Obviously you will have to work out the one that you like best. However, if these sorts of workouts don’t take your fancy then you can still add stretches to your daily routine, building on them each time to improve your flexibility.

We at Simply Sweat want to help get you motivated to get off the couch and into the gym this year. There are no excuses and we know that you can do it!
Every year most of us decide that we are going to do something about the state of our health and fitness, and how many of us actually stick at it? The hardest thing is getting started, deciding what the best exercise is for you. You don’t have to go to the gym to get fit, there are so many things you can do in the comfort of your own home or even in the local park that won’t cost you a penny!
Once you start exercising you have to give it a chance to see the results, it won’t happen overnight. But once you start to feel and look ten times better I’m sure this will keep you motivated to carry on.
Why not make new friends whilst you exercise and join a club, such as swimming or dancing? Swimming is a great way to burn those calories and has less of impact on your bones and muscles than say running for example.
Whatever you choose make sure it is something that you enjoy doing otherwise you are more likely not to stick at it. Trust me, you will feel so much better for exercising more!
Here we have put a few exercises together to help get you started, and guess what; you don’t even have to leave your home.
